Projects: Conservation Training

Project type: Conservation training in El Salvador
Project name: The Mesoamerican Corridor Project: In-Country Training for Park Rangers and Area Administrators From Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Belize
Clients and Partners: ProNatura de El Salvador, Colorado State University, Consortium for Protected Area Management and Training, Center for Protected Area Management and Training, Colorado State University, USDA Forest Service, World Conservation Society
Role: Lead Instructor
Location: Parque de los Volcanes, El Salvador
Scope: International
Major components: Conduct intensive seven day on-site training for infrastructure development and trail planning, design, construction and maintenance for conservation managers, community members, and local rangers.
Notes: This program is the first in a series of capacity building programs centered around the Meso-American Trails Corridor Project.


Project type: Conservation Training in Brazil
Project name: Fundação O Boticário Biodiversity Training Program
Clients and Partners: Fundação O Boticário de Proteção a Natureza, USAID, Center for Protected Area Management and Training, Colorado State University, WWF
Role: Instructor/Lead Instructor
Location: Paraná, Brasil
Scope: International
Major components: Provide classroom instruction, written materials, and supervise field exercises for capacity building and training for conservation related areas such as infrastructure planning, development, management and maintenance, trail building, visitor management, conservation planning and concession management.
Notes: This is an on-going program and I have participated as an instructor/trainer in more than 20 different trainings over the last 8 years. All materials, lectures and related activities are in Portuguese.


Project type: Conservation Training in Cuba
Project name: Sabana – Camagüey GEF Biodiversity Conservation Project
Clients and Partners: United Nations Development Program, Centro Nacional de Áreas Protegidas
Role: Consultant, Instructor
Location: Topes de Collantes, Trinidad, Matanzas, Cuba Scope: National
Scope: National
Major components: Provide classroom instruction, written materials, and supervise field exercises for capacity building and training for conservation related areas in karst and cave settings, mixed use zones and other natural areas. Thematic areas included infrastructure planning, development, management and maintenance, trail building and routing in caves, visitor management, conservation planning and concession management.
Notes: Trainings took place throughout the life of the project with more than 120 area managers, rangers, planners and others trained. All materials, lectures and related activities were in Spanish.
